Suite Bar Review
The corner of Hobson and Wolfe Streets has seen a number of bars come and go over the past 10 years. It's an appealing space. Not in the Viaduct, yet close enough to attract the patrons that usually frequent the bars and nightclubs available on Princess Wharf. The original success-story, The Hobson Street Lounge was the coolest bar in town when it was bought out some 5 years ago. It seemed that its feeling and vibe would never be replicated, but it seems a worthy pretender has risen to the challenge.
Suite is run by a group of young, professional bartenders who have an extensive knowledge and a willingness to bring the quality and style of service that was prevalent in the days of Hobson Street Lounge. Open for over a year now, Suite has secured a crowd of young corporate go-getters who seem to be present every afternoon. Yet it is not just a corporate crowd whom Suite can claim. Many of the staff who work in various bars in the area are regulars in the early hours of the morning and it could be argued that Suite is one of the slickest late night joints in town. Its early morning close is perfect for those who work in the industry and as a punter it should always be recognised that 'hospo' know where to drink.
The music here is what you would expect from a bar such as Suite; primarily uplifting funky house, which you can't help grooving to. There is always a DJ available spinning the latest hit and given the good looking crowd the limited space can often be more a bonus than any form of hindrance.
Given the size of the bar it is not your typical destination bar, yet the BarFly would recommend it as one. Given the late closing hour of Suite, the fly would suggest you get there in the early hours of the morning and mix and mingle. Soak up the eye candy and take advantage of the knowledgeable staff. Try one of their unique concoctions and enjoy the music. Suite is not to be missed.
