Stingray Bar Review

Stingray bar is an alien in Nelson. Nelson, like many towns in New Zealand is a pub town. Jugs, pints and handles are freely poured here and yet Stingray bumps that trend. Although beer is readily available it is not their niche. They would rather pour you a vodka tonic or perhaps a Riesling that can be enjoyed on their patio or in their booths.

This bar is bohemian and reflects that in its line up of DJs that play anything from Drum and Bass to Hard House depending on the night. Stingray also offers an assortment of live musicians who play acoustic and amplified sets in the early evenings most nights. You will definitely have to check their gig guide to keep up with what's going on tonight.

The bartenders here are young and hip and reflect the vibe that the owners have established. The service here is casual and yet professional. Perhaps an oxymoron, but that's the way it's done at Stingray.

The crowd here swings wildly. It could be the after work crowd that swamps this place between 4-6 or the young hip things that arrive early evening to listen to the acoustic sounds of a solo artist or ragers rolling up late evening to dance the night away to the heavy bass of Pendulum. Whatever your scene is; Stingray caters for it. A great bar and if you're looking for a little slice of Auckland or Wellington in Nelson then this is your place.
