Harry's Bar Review

Harry's Bar on Hardy Street in Nelson has recently celebrated its two year anniversary and congratulations to it. Few bars in New Zealand reflect Harry's energy and continual dedication to service. Although primarily a restaurant, Harry's Bar offers an eclectic range of cocktails and spirits.

Obviously a fan of Nelson and Marlborough's wines, most found on the list are local wineries, notably Seifried and Neudorf whose vineyards can be found some 10km down the road.

As far as music goes Harry's can be restricted by the fact that it is a restaurant so much of it is downbeat, but it is not the music that this joint generates its vibe from. The staff behind the bar and on the floor seem to have their finger on the pulse and through a variety of hairstyles and one-liners seem to create a relaxed and upbeat feel that keeps the place humming every night.

If you want to drop into this place the barfly recommends that you wait until a little later in the evening. The restaurant crowd has mostly dissipated and the hospo crowd that exists in Nelson tends to turn up, which in itself is a compliment to the place. It's at this time that you can get to meet a few people and socialize. Nelson tends to be a bit of a cliche place and Harry's Bar kicks that notion where such a stigma belongs. Sit down have a Fire and Ice and enjoy the company.
