Good Luck Bar Review

Goodluck Bar is one of the BarFly's favourite joints in New Zealand. Located in a basement on Cuba Mall, Goodluck is one of those bars that blends class with accessibility and not exclusitivity. This might not appeal to some readers who feel that exclusitivity is what makes a bar cool, but Goodluck and its crowd don't require such pretensions.

The music here varies from DJs playing lounge-friendly sets for those chilling in the booths early week to bands playing a blend of old-school funk and breaks for the rager-crowd who enjoy jamming the bar on the weekends. It is difficult to give an accurate description of the musical vibe, but if it sounds fresh then it's going to be played at Goodluck.

Like many cocktail lounges in the Wellington region, the barstaff at Goodluck are both professional and knowledgeable. The bar offers restricted service areas, which works for both the staff and the punters as it enables staff with adequate vision the ability to provide faster and more efficient service. Beer on tap is available but the setting is not conducive to such a lack of finesse. It is suggested you try one of Goodluck's top cocktails or select a glass of wine from their selection of lesser known wineries.

Most bars are at their best when they're humming. But the BarFly doesn't feel Goodluck demands chronic crowds to generate the same vibe as many similar bars demand. The Fly suggests you check the gig guide and get to Goodluck on a mid-week night. Being an established bar, many locals and those in the know would be your only company and it's often these kinds of nights that are the most memorable.
