For a random night out on the piss I don't think you can go past Wellington. The few nights that I have been out there, its like New Years every weekend night. Even on the slow nights there are bars to check out that have a unique vibe about them. I love Auckland, but I don't think its scene is as diverse. Nonetheless the best place to hang out is wherever your mates are, that'll always guarentee you a good night.

Yeah, flyboytrav (I think we've meet before...) is right.
I'm not much of a traveller, but I've had some good nights in Wellington. It's a nice compact city where you can walk everywhere, and as long as you carry some heavy weaponry, it's safe as houses.

It's totally being with your mates. I've had better nights in a cow paddock than in the middle of a city.
