Corner Bar Review
Corner Bar review Corner Bar is one of those bars that seems as though it has always been there. Its attractive wooden bar top and arrangement of premium spirits is something out of a classical 1930s movie. Found on the corner of High and Shortland Streets it adds a decided contrast to the other clubs and bars found in the area. Its emphasis on quality of drink as opposed to quantity is displayed in its quality selection of top end whiskys, vodkas and rums.
The music here is unobtrusive and conducive to conversation. In the early evening much of it are the familiar motown, 60s, 70s hits. Although it might seem conservative it suits the image of the Corner Bar and pleases its predominantly corporate after work crowd. Many weekends D.J’s are employed to spin some heavier stuff, providing a classier alternative to the monotonous bass of the neighbouring nightclubs.
The service here has always been outstanding. Having just the one bartender is a massive asset to the Corner Bar and their bartenders always possess a professional manner and knowledge. That is often seen when local office or retail workers drop in and the familiarity between themselves and the staff is rare and spontaneous.
The Corner Bar is an outstandingly consistent bar. The BarFly recommends that you drop into it in the early evening before you start raging in one of the various nightclubs in the vicinity. Soak up the last rays of sunshine on their wooden booths outside while drinking a traditional cocktail that reflects the surroundings. You could also use it, as a refresher spot between clubs, where you can be assured you won’t be waiting 30 minutes for your next drink. The Corner Bar is also the perfect first date bar. Enough going on that you won’t be strapped for conversation and classical enough that it appears you’re making an effort. Classically perfect.
